Civilian students who are military veterans may be eligible for benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill or the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Please be aware that if you are on active duty or are mobilized for any period during a term you may not receive benefits for that term.
How to get your GI Bill benefits:
If this is your first time requesting benefits you should visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website for more information. Once there, click the link marked "apply for benefits," complete VA Form 22-1990 and submit it to the VA. After submitting your form to VA, please email the Registrar's office and let us know whether you are using Post 9-11 or Montgomery GI Bill benefits.
If you used benefits previously and still have some remaining, complete VA Form 22-1995 and submit it to the VA. After submitting your form to VA, please email the Registrar's office and let us know whether you are using Post 9-11 or Montgomery GI Bill benefits.
The registrar's office will certify you to the VA on a term by term basis, generally during the first week of the term. It generally takes 4-6 weeks for the VA to process your initial paperwork. Please be patient, the VA will back-pay to the beginning of your certification period.
If you are using the Montgomery GI Bill, you will need to certify your continued enrollment each month using the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) website. If you are using the Post 9-11 GI Bill you do not need to self-certify.
If you have additional questions, or need assistance, call your certifying official at 202-231-2767. We are here to help you succeed!
