NIU Alumnus Takes Command at Coast Guard Intel Coordination Center

July 29, 2016

Command of the Coast Guard Intelligence Coordination Center (ICC) passed from one NIU alumnus to another alumnus on Friday, 24 June 2016 when CAPT Patrick Schreiber ’06 (left) assumed command from Class of 1993 alumnus Robert Hayes. CAPT Hayes was immediately “frocked” – to Rear Admiral and appointed as the Coast Guard Assistant Commandant for Intelligence (CG-2).

Coast Guard Intelligence provides one of the strongest examples of how NIU is preparing future leaders: five of the last seven Commanding Officers of the Coast Guard ICC are alumni: CAPT Douglas Whitmer ’86 (2001-2004); CAPT Wayne Collins ’87 (2004-2006); CAPT Christopher Tomney ’93 (2009-2010); CAPT Robert Hayes ’93 (2013-2016); and now CAPT Patrick Schreiber ’06.
